Kuwait Cartoons

I am about to start a series of cartoons that are portraying life in Kuwait from the perspective of an American contractor living here in 2003-2004.
Unfortunately I am not blessed with painting skills ... but therefore I have Internet! :)
I found these a few years back and kind of forgot about them. Now I would love to give credit to the original artist but I have no clue who/where he is.
Anyways ... give me the credit for showing them and him the credits of making them ... :)

Where to BBQ in Kuwait

I BBQ'ed at home on my balcony, on the beach front in Salmiya, in a 'traditional' tent, on Kubbar Island, at various chalets... but somehow I haven't found the perfect spot yet.
i was thinking about going to Muttla Ridge for a change. Trying to find a spot where you can see downtown Kuwait (if the weather lets you) and the sea. Or maybe somewhere towards Bubyan Island on the beach (I could fish at the same time...)?

Where is your favourite BBQ place in Kuwait?!?
And what's your favourite BBQ food?? (and can I have the recipe please?!?!)

Get In Terms With It!

free⋅dom [free-duhm] - noun: The power or right to act, speak or think as one wants WITHOUT hindrance or restraint

Do not oppress bloggers for they seek freedom,
Do not harass bloggers for they seek support,
Do not verbally abuse bloggers for they expect respect.

We don't mind criticism. We enjoy your feedback's and comment almost all the time. But resorting to personal attacks and threats is not acceptable. Thinking that you have a say over what topics we can and cannot post is delusional thinking, you do not have a say when it comes to that.

Blogging is fun, let's keep it that way.

New phone?!?!

I want a new phone!
I currently have the Nokia E90 and I am not happy with it anymore... Maps stopped working properly (and yes... i do have a valid subscription), generally slow in response, ...
i never had a mobile phone that was not Nokia... if I remember right, my first one was a 2110 (back in '95!)... loved it!! Simple and indestructible!
Ok ... today I obviously expect more from a phone then what I did back then...
So now... should I take the step and try another brand?? I am thinking of an IPhone 3G or maybe another Nokia... maybe the N97 that was just introduced...
Maybe you can give me some alternatives to my current E90... it should have bluetooth, GPS, WLAN, 3G or 3.5G, Quad Band and maybe UMTS, a decent cam for pics and video, compatible with MS Outlook, BIIIIIG memory for music and stuff, ... well ... in short .... I want the meanest mobile on the market! Any ideas?!?!

I stumbbled over this ...

Funny how they emphasize the experience with Volvo Vehicles in his past ... he never did work for Volvo before!! I hope all the Volvo owners made sure that their spare parts are really new and not some used crap! And if you are a female Volvo owner ... don't give too much on his flirting ... he does that with every woman that's not out of his sight by the count of three.
Anyways ... Volvo got smarter now ... even though they should have seen it long time ago ...

Taken from the Arab Times Online. See the full article with picture here.

P.S. Can you tell that I really don't want him to stay in Kuwait and continue with his bullshit!?

Don't you ever learn ?!?

Who used to be a good friend of mine long time ago got fired AGAIN...

He was caught stealing used tires from his employer and there was another issue of using the company driver to take care of his personal bullshit... (Volvo / Kuwait)
Before he was fired, being the GM, for making promises he couldn't keep / bad mouthing the CEO in public, with suppliers and customers / abusive language against the owners daughter / trying to take the business away from the owner and jump to another employer to continue the same crap just for better money / basically for not performing at all... (Wiesmann and Nano Refinement / Kuwait)
Before that he was fired for not working together with the rest of the management / for making deals at the side with customers and suppliers / bad mouthing his company / for not keeping his work times / for failing to put in reports / for fooling customers / for not complying to standard company procedures... (Aston Martin / Kuwait)
Before that I think he was fired as well ... but I don't know the reason ... but I bet you it went along with all the other Jobs he had... (Mercedes Benz Trucks / Kuwait)
Before that he was fired for not performing / bad mouthing / racial comments / and a few other things ... (Oshkosh Trucks / Kuwait)
Before that he left Germany with a few thousand Euro debt that the German Government would still like to collect from him ...

It's unbelievable how little you learned within the few years that I know you...
2 years ago I would have done as much as I can to find you something. Now, being smarter and having my fingers burned on you, I hope no one makes the mistake of hiring you again. Kuwait is small ... very small in fact... and you caused enough damage for the little German community that we are here! You ruin our reputation with your non existing ethics... Besides that ... there are not too many Car Dealerships left in Kuwait who don't know you! I think you are trying with Bebehani right now?! Good luck ... because if I know whats going on with you ... they should know as well!

And I better not start with your private bullshit that you fabricated in less then 5 years!!!
I just hope that you treat N. the way you are supposed too and you are not playing games like you did before!

Sayonara *** !!

P.S.: Sorry to everyone except *** ... just had to vent out a little ...

I am very tempted ...

... to do the same:

Dear J.
Thanks so much for meeting me this morning. I know your time is precious so just a quick note to clarify my position. Sadly (and I think you know what's coming), I've decided not to take up your offer of more money and a new Peugeot. Actually, I'd rather like to spit on your offer of more money and a new Peugeot. You've got balls; I'll give you that. But what's the point of having big balls if you've only got a weenie bat (Janet told the whole office). What sort of idiot do you think I am to even consider accepting your trifling gesture, this pittance, this worst of kind of tokenism?
Anyway, take this as written notice. I'm off; outta here, following my yellow brick road (in a Mercedes Convertible) to pastures new and greener. I'm going to a bigger agency (don't ask me where - I don't need a reference) who are paying me even more money and who are kindly providing me with a whopper of an expenses account. Job satisfaction? Who needs it? Haven't you read The Bonfire of the Vanities? They're giving me a clothes allowance, a season ticket for Stamford Bridge and free corporate gym membership. Salubrious stuff I'm sure you'll agree.
And so, at last, I must bid you a fond adieu. I'll miss your long-winded internal memos intensely although I'll never forgive you for sending me so few of them. Finally, I would certainly recommend a deodorant to you but I don't care enough. I wish you all the best for the future.
Kind Regards

Why did you resign?
I was offered another job with a better car than my boss's

What are you going to do next?
Going to work for a competitor who is going to double my salary

Mumbai under attack
Late Wednesday night, Mumbai, India found itself the target of a ferocious terrorist attack, and the situation remains unresolved even now, three days later. According to reports, upwards of 60 young men entered Mumbai in small inflatable boats on Wednesday night, carrying bags filled with weapons and ammunition, and spread out to nine locations to begin their attacks. Lobbing grenades and firing their weapons, they entered hotels, a railway station and several other buildings, killing scores and wounding even more. As of this moment, the identity of the attackers has yet to be definitively determined, though there are reports indicating some of the gunmen were Pakistani - at least nine of them have been killed, nine more arrested. As of this writing, there were a reported 151 people killed from 11 different countries - though nearly 100 were Indian. More than 300 injuries have also been reported - those numbers may yet rise as several hostage situations still exist in the city. (35 photos total)

Call of Duty: World at War

I was waiting for the release of Call of Duty: World at War (or CoD5) for quite a long time .... Finally it's here!
I bought the PS3 version on Wednesday and I was thru with the game on Thursday afternoon...
I played it in 'Veteran' difficulty just to see what the game is like and to unlock the levels.
It is GREAT! I was hoping for a much longer single player game but then again it has some very very pretty graphics. It is using the same engine that CoD4 was using with different textures of course and much much better maps. Your are playing the story of two soldiers.
A Russian that is fighting the Germans that are portrayed really evil and bad in this game (and some of them were in reality as well). You are accompanied by some Russian commander who's pushing his soldiers to be just as bad as the Germans are. In one scene he is asking you to shoot 3 German soldiers who surrendered. I refused to do it so he threw a Molotov Cocktail (one of the available weapons being a Russian) on them!
The other soldier is a US Marine that is fighting the Japanese. They are also shown as real savages and attack you several times with banzai (suicide) attacks. Traps are waiting for your comrades laid by the Japanese and they are very deadly. The US Marines are behaving 'good' in the story, meaning they do not kill POW's or other ridiculous stuff. BUT... they are putting a really gruesome weapon to use ... the flame thrower!

They throw some actual film footage from both fronts into the game in between the levels. Very graphic ones as well... German officers being executed ... burned Japanese soldiers ...

It's definitely nothing you should let your kids play though since it's very graphic when it comes to injuries and killing people. Specially with a flamethrower, grenade or a heavy machine gun. No wonder it is rated 18+ !!! But I guess that's what makes it even more interesting for the kids...

I am looking forward to play it on the PC in my favourite "Game Center" since there is a new 4 player coop mode! You are going thru the same story as in the single player mode... just with your friends by your side. Also the multi player maps seem to be quite cool! They are big and have real nice graphics. Vehicles are back in the game! So you can take control of a tank with your buddy mounting the MG in the turret.

Call me a weirdo ... but I like Ego Shooters that are as real as possible ... and CoD: World at War is!!

BTW...
Two of the screenshots are NOT from some video scene!
They were made during game play !!!

Quantum of Solace: James Bond 007

It's the 22nd James Bond movie... and it ain't bad at all!

Besides the fact that the theater her in Kuwait cut at least 10 scenes! In the opening trailer there were cuts already! OK OK ... there must be half naked girls winding and grinding in it... but is that a legit reason to cut it??? The last James Bond (Casino Royal), I also watched in the theater and I didn't get the story because I didn't understand whats going on between James and Vesper Lynd (Eva Green). Had noooooo clue until I watched the DVD. This time I at least got the plot and story right! :)
On the bright side ... we've seen it before the audience in the US and Europe!

He's driving an Aston Martin DBS in the first few minutes and is chased by some Alfa Romeo's... poor Aston gets quite smashed but (of course) survives, unlike the Alfas. The rest of the movie is hybrid Fords! A Focus and I think an Explorer ... nice touch ... :)

Story is OK and could theoretically happen (not as fancy as Moonraker or some other movies out of the James Bond series). He's is still going after the dudes that killed Vesper Lynd in Casino Royal and on the way is stopping some pseudo environmentalist from taking over the water supply of Bolivia.

The new Bond girl Olga Kurylenko playing Camile is quite alright but by far not the best looking Bond girl... maybe because all the good scenes were all cut! GRRRR !!! Much hotter is the Embassy staff girl that is picking James up in Bolivia! Her name: Strawberry Fields (Gemma Arterton)!
More facts and a alot of pics here!

Response to your message to Obama for America

Dear N****** (Evil Knievel),
Thank you for contacting Senator Obama and Obama for America. Barack greatly appreciates the outpouring of messages he is receiving from across the country and from Americans around the world. He is deeply honored by the confidence the American people have placed in him and in Senator Biden.
Senators Obama and Biden are hopeful about the opportunities and clear-eyed about the challenges our nation faces. They look forward to working with all Americans, regardless of who they voted for, in the great project of American renewal. Enlisting the energy and ingenuity of the American people is the only way we will create the changes that so many people want to see, so we hope you’ll be involved.
You have just contacted Obama for America, the Obama/Biden campaign organization. A new organization is being formed to facilitate communication with the Obama/Biden Administration that will take office on January 20, 2009. If you have questions, suggestions, or comments about the federal government, policy, or the coming Obama/Biden Administration, please stay tuned for more information and a new website coming soon that will tell you how to get involved.
If you’re contacting us because you’ve been energized by your participation in our grassroots movement, we hope you will remain active in your community and involved in national policy debates. Please continue to visit www.BarackObama.com regularly. We’ve built one of the most comprehensive nationwide organizing networks in history, and our victory on November 4th is only the beginning of the work we will do together.
If you have other thoughts or business with the campaign, you can continue to reach us toll free at 866-675-2008. Due to the extremely high number of messages we are currently receiving, we may be unable to respond to your message individually, but we do appreciate hearing from you and hope you’ll work with us as we build America’s future together.
Thank you again for contacting us.
Sincerely,
Obama for America

I DON'T THINK HE'S TAKING ME SERIOUS!!!

My email to Sen. Barack Obama

Dear Sen. Barack Obama!

First of all I would like to congratulate you for this landslide win in the US elections! It was time for a change and it came thanks to YOU!
But I would like to make you aware that according to the votes casted on my blog the results turned out to be a bit different! In this vote is was me who won with 5 votes. You only came second with 3 votes and Mr. McCain came third with 0 votes.
So looking at this I would like to meet you in person to discuss on how we could probably share the office. Since you are much more aware of how things are handled in the government, I would accept if you become the acting President of the United States of America and I take a smaller role as a Presidential Advisor for example.
You can contact me on my cell phone (00965 669*****) or via email (nr*****@**-****.net).

I am looking forward to hear from you.
Best regards and good luck!
Yours,
N****** R***** (Evil Knievel)

I would like to thank all my supporters who gave me a landslide win over Sen. Barack Obama! I will keep in mind where I came from and who supported me! Together we'll make this world a better place!

I will discuss with Sen. Barack Obama on how we could probably share office... I will keep you updated!

U.S. Presidential elections 2008

The U.S. Presidential elections 2008 are very close now with Obama in favour to win against McCain. Never the less, a surprise candidate just entered the race 2 days before elections! Due to the short notice, millions of ballots are now outdated and would need to be reprinted and redistributed. With only 2 days to elections, this is an impossible task to do, even for FedEx / UPS / DHL and all daily newspapers working hand in hand. The solution, the first ever Internet voting, was approved yesterday night at 3:15 am by congress.
And something else came as a surprise for U.S. citizens when they opened the newspaper today to read about the new election method and the new candidate.
For the first time ever, all human mankind can participate in the U.S. Presidential elections! This announcement came after several international groups claimed that the election process was unfair and rigged.
The new candidate has no funding, no expensive campaign, no media coverage and no known supporters so far but he comes with a simple plan to win:
"Vote for me and I'll make this world a better place!" are his simple words in this complicated time. "I don't care if you are white, black, yellow, brown, red, khaki or purple... there is good and bad among all of us!" is what he had to say about the rising racism among the US citizens.
With theses simple but important messages he deserves all the support we can provide him!

So please come and vote! The online voting for the U.S. Presidential elections 2008 can be found right here (see the poll on the right side? It's linked to the U.S. ballot system...) !!

UPDATE:
Go and vote for real!!
There is a website collecting votes from all over the planet! Here is the link: http://www.iftheworldcouldvote.com/

GHOSTS !!

Are you one of the people who believe in ghosts??? Or have you even seen one??? You think he lives with you in the same house???
You are in good company! The majority of people do believe in ghosts and who can blame them?? For every evidence 'believers' bring, some 'non believers' come up with a new reason why this evidence is false or not correct. So you either believe or you don't!

Feel like providing new evidence for the existence of ghosts?!?

Go here and get your gear!

You lost that virgin feeling??

Sing along with the melody of "You've lost that loving feeling (The Righteous Brothers)":

You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips...
and there is no tightness anymore around your hips.
You're trying hard not to show it baby
But baby, baby I know it

You've lost that virgin feeling
Oh, that virgin feeling
You've lost that virgin feeling
Now it's gone, gone, gone
Whoa-oh

Now there's no tenderness In your eyes when I reach for you
And girl you're starting to criticize little things
I do It makes me just feel like crying baby
'Cause baby, something beautiful's dying

You've lost that virgin feeling
Oh that virgin feeling
Bring back that virgin feeling
Now it's gone gone gone
And I can't go on No-oh-oh

Baby baby I get down on my knees for you

Tired??

I was in Marina Mall a few days ago... my friend had to go to the bathroom so I waited in front of it... You know where they rent you those little cars for kids?!?
OK .. I was standing at the counter and out of boredom I was reading the sings that where stuck to it... prices ... that you need to check your civil ID when they return it to you ... stuff like this ... I stood there at least 2 minutes ... when I walked away from it I noticed that there is something wrong with this counter and at first I could not tell ... something with the chair ...
Then I noticed that the woman working there was fast asleep! i seriously didn't notice her!!
Hope she doesn't get fired now ... :P All of us need rest at some time ... and if we could rest at work ... we probably would ... :)

We had a few drops coming down in the last few days ... the first rain drop actually hit me last Friday at the British Embassy at around 22.30 during the "Kuwait Stock" ...

But now... PROPER RAIN with thunder and lightning !!!
I went outside to take my car out of the shaded area to have it naturally cleaned ... :P
Looks like the rain is moving from here towards Salmiya... :)

In Germany I get this all the time:
"You live in Kuwait?! WOW! I have something for you!!! There is this project... it's an investment of x Million Euro ... do you know someone!?".

The new family member

I am sooooo sorry for not writing something earlier ... but I couldn't / didn't feel like / or what ever...
I will see that I post a picture in this post later today since I have none here...

It's a 'her' ... about 1000 grams ... lot's of hair ... :)
Her original name is Lulu... but I can't really name her that because a friend of mine might not really like it if I scream "LULU!! COME HERE!!!"
So I was looking for a name and was hoping she would do something stupid that I could name her after... but no ... very quiet .. potty trained ... play full ... hmmm ... so I came up with: "Maey"
That's what she sounded like when I got her:"maey.... maey ..." (and since I do not know a May or Mae in Kuwait I am good to go...)
So for everyone that didn't get it yet ... I GOT A CAT !!!
After absence of almost 5 years I became a can opener again! :)

The official results on Kuwait's latest poll

Just now an independent news agency released the results of Kuwait's latest poll.
Here are some facts about the voting process, participation and the final results.

E-K News, Kuwait 2nd September 2008
Out of 6,676,120,288 possible voters only around 1,463,632,361 actually qualified for voting which is only 21.9%. Sadly enough only 1075 people made it to the ballots and just 20 people filled them out!
"This was the smallest turnout for a poll ever registered" a UN official said in an interview earlier today. People on the streets seem not to be upset about the very low participation in the poll and continue to life their daily lives.
"When the poll ended at midnight on the 31st of August, we had a hard time collecting and counting out all the votes given to us. The system we imported from the U.S.A. that is doing the counting automatically had some bugs and we needed to count several time. In fact we had to run it 4 times until we had a correct count." an official from the Poll-Center was commented.
Here are the final results:
Question: "People who are not obeying the traffic laws in Kuwait should be ..."
Votes:
- burned, torn to pieces and fed to dogs

3 votes (15%)

- should pay a serious fine
8 votes (40%)

- left alone
2 votes (10%)

- honored for the skills they show
7 votes (35%)

As you can see, the answers do not allow any officials to make a clear decision on the matter of traffic violations in Kuwait. I guess it just goes on as it is...

(number of possible and qualified voters taken from here)

P.S. This is obviously NOT AN OFFICIAL POLL !!! The poll took place on this website and does not represent the public opinion of Kuwait and it's inhabitants (even though a real poll COULD come up with similar results).

Don't you just love these emails?!? Just sad that there is a few hundred thousand people on this planet that actually believe this crap !! In other words... THIS IS NONSENSE !!!

Nonesense on my desk

Besides some work that is nonsense too, i have two things on my desk that just collect some dust are are good for nothing.

The ancient Egyptian 'gold-snow globe' is a gift from our Finance Manager... can't really put this away if I want to keep my good relations with the Finance Department, can I?!
The other thingy is a enormous bolt and nut that I took from stores (the cigarette pack is not really useless if you are a smoker like me, it's just there to show you how big the bolt is). It should actually go onto one of our machines... It's always good fun when someone is trying to pick it up! It weighs around 15 kg!! :P
Why do I have this on my desk ... I don't know ...
Why do I blog about this ... I don't know ... :P

Your last chance to VOTE !!!

If you are a responsible person you should vote! Right?!?
Don't let others decide your future!!
Don't complain that everything is bad if you didn't vote!
So come and vote here!!
(see my poll on the right!?!)

Weekend still in ruins...

Remember the sad day? It was a few weeks ago when silently the 'weekend' in Kuwait had vanished. Let me remind you of this very sad day here.

Since then my life has been boring and miserable. No more french-baguette-chicken-sharwerma ... no more "yowante wiz frensh frieze?" ... no more mint flavoured toothpicks ... no more arguing about who placed the better shots or had the better hideout when coming from playing Call of Duty 4 ... (actually we never played after the 'weekend' came down).

Last weekend I passed the 'Weekend' and saw this:

I thought that I am witnessing a wormhole or time travel at first ... stopped ... stared ... took a picture ... pinched myself ... compared with the old picture ... I wasn't dreaming ...
Since it came down NOTHING moved ... just the excavator moved the boom a little ...

Whats happening there?!?! Court case or something?!? Can't move the evidence?!
