Water Gel

I found the coolest thing since sliced bread...
It's nothing new but I am totally facinated by it!
It's a gel that you use to provide plants or flowers with water and nutritions...
I bought the clear gel (but there are many other colors) from IKEA and honestly, I thought one of the packs will not be enough.
So back home i filled it in the vase that I earlyier also bought from there to keep my bamboo fit!
It looked kinda sad since only the lower third was filled with the gel...
The instructions didn't really say anything about the usage of it... so I figured I'll just add a little bit of water... That little bit was about half of the vase! Shit!!! Too much I thought! WRONG!
All the water i filled in turned into the same gel substance! Since I am rather curious I filled the rest of the vase with water to see if all of it would turn into that gel. It took about 30 minutes... and it did!!! :)
Looks awsome! Feels funny! Tastes awsome! Naaah!! Didn't try it!! Neither should you!

Here is a picture of the final result:

Can you see the little air bubbles caught in the gel?! Looks pretty cool!!
BTW ... You can find that stuff in IKEA where all the deco stuff is...

UPDATE: Here are instructions on how to use the water gel!

Awsome diving in Kuwait

I am dying to go diving since I didn't go in a veeeery long time. Earlier I tried with the Palms Diving Center and it was not really successful (see my earlier post) so I decided I will go with someone else.

I chose the KIM Dive Center in the Hilton... One should guess that if you do business inside the Hilton you are halfway professional... but again... I was wrong...

Let's start when I first went there.

They are located in one of the chalets and the security of the Hilton wold not let me drive there. They asked me to park in front of Starbucks and go to the reception. I did... The woman at the reception told me it's OK and I should just tell them that I spoke with her and she gave me the OK to drive there. So back to the car to avoid the burning heat. Arriving at the security check the guy told me again:" You not drive zee car inside! Go rezeptian!"
So back to the reception... quick talk with that woman... She sends me back out... I refuse because he would still not listen to me... finally the DOORMAN overheard our discussion and told me that he will get transport for me! So off I go in the golf cart to chalet 500-something...

When I reached there, I saw a sign saying KIM diving center... I walked inside and found myself in the kids "daycare" center... no diving! So my hunt for someone responsible continues ...
Upstairs I found someone that could have been involved with diving, so I asked him if I am at the right place... YES! Found it!! (Just took me around 30 minutes from entering the main gate)

So I tell him what I want, when I want it and that I am a certified Instructor...
He writes everything down on a ripped off piece of paper and I thought: "OMG... I hope this will work out!". I mean they didn't even have a form where they waive liability and take your details .... just scribble down your name and phone number and that it... OK... it DID work.
They called me back to tell me that the trip on Friday starts at 8.30am from the Fahaheel Sea Club and both places are reserved for me.
I asked when I should come with my friend to try on the gear we need to rent from them and we where supposed to come the same day. We did... same problem again reaching them... then trying on the BCD... and that's it!!! No Fins... No Mask... No boots... nutt'in! I thought I heard him say that all of this is in the Fahaheel Sea Club and left it at that...
Thursday night my friend and I cancelled all invitations to 'social events' to get a good night sleep and not to miss diving. The next morning 7.45 am we were on the way to Fahaheel... 8.30 we reached the parking lot and just when I switched off the engine of my car my phone rang.

"Mr. Evil Knievel... I am really sorry to tell you that the trip for today is cancelled. My staff did a mistake and we can't go!". WFT !!! Not only that I missed hanging out with friends the night before... no... on my only day off I woke up earlier then if I have to go to work and drove all the way for them to cancel!!

It was the dive instructor calling and he was just as pissed as I was. So OK I thought ... poor guy... missed quite a lot of business and besides he offered me my money back and a free dive.
My temper slowly settled down and we went for breakfast instead.
The following two weeks we unfortunately could go because of other appointments... but then last Friday we could!
So I called them... made the arrangements with them... cancelled my 'social gathering' (at least kept them to a minimum) and was all excited about finally going diving!
Thursday afternoon ... my phone rings ... "Allo Sir... sis is zee diving center. Tomorrow zhere will be no trip. Zee boat is broken...". WTF !!! It's JULY !!! Season started in April !!!

WHY CAN'T I HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK !!!!

Bird prices soaring

Dear Mr. Ben Garcia,

I just read your lovely little article about the 'bird prices soaring' in Kuwait... ha ha... funny... birds - prices - soaring ... ha ha... not...
Now let's go a bit deeper into your live report from the 'bird market'...
please allow me to quote a few of your lines and comment on them:

"I was strolling through the animal kingdom in hope of seeing bizarre animals on sale, like pythons, sea turtles, lizards or even crocodiles, which I know are forbidden but sometimes you'll see them being sold there. I was looking for these exotic animals but I found nothing."
- If you know they are forbidden ... why where you looking for them?!? Working on an undercover report on animal trafficking?

"...it was indeed surprising to discover that prices have doubled or even tripled when compared to last year. ... The cockatoos, a small, parrot-like bird, which I bought for only KD 5 two years ago, are now KD 20-25 each."
- so we where not really good in math ... where we?!?!

"Let's not forget, animals like these should be maintained and need special food to liveon. Similarly, pet food has also soared to unbelievable rate."
- Yes ... and some of them should actually never be maintained and taken care of by humans AT ALL!!

"I love all domestic animals, but knowing the enormous amount which they take from the daily budget, it is sad that many may one day abandon the idea of having them as their domestic pets."
- GREAT !!!! No more puppies and kittens being thrown out on the street because they are not clean or grow too big / fast, no more rare and endangered species living in some small cage, no more goldfish that needs to share his 2 months old water with his colleague in the round bowl, no more birds caught up in a way too small cage, ...

Well ... Ben ... thanks for bringing this up ... inflation is everywhere ... but sometimes it's not bad at all!!

Don't get me wrong people! I do not say that keeping animals at home is a bad thing in general! It's just that some 'people over here' sometimes forget that these are living creatures, with individual and sometimes very demanding needs in terms of food / living conditions /... !!!
If you treat your pet right, I am all for you!!
But if you buy a pet so you have something at home that others don't or to score with chicks (I know at least 2 guys who have a small puppy every now and then to do exactly that!) ... you should reconsider!

No more Weekend in Kuwait

What sad news I have to bring you!
I received an SMS yesterday and I could not really believe it... today I had to check this for myself and sadly... it is true!!

NO MORE WEEKEND IN KUWAIT !!!

Not for me, not for you, not for anybody!!!
Not for government employees, not for bankers, not for Contractors, ... NOT FOR NO ONE !!!
We will be deprived of our weekend for the rest of our lives as long as we are living in Kuwait!!!

The papers didn't report about it, the National Assembly didn't vote on it, not even the Amir approved it... still ... it's gone!

Now I sit here reminiscing about the times where it was still there... all the fun and laughter... the fun times with friends... the cold drinks... the hot food...
All gone!!! No more!!

Before you call me a liar... check this:

It used to be my favourit Sharwerma place... Awsome French Baguette Sandwiches!!! Always busy!! Super friendly staff!! There whenever you needed them... ALL GONE !!!

But let's be serious for a few moments here. It really is a tradgic thing. Not because I can't go there anymore and have decent food with my friends, no, but because the live of a few people just went down the drain. As far as I heard and understood the story, the owner of the restaunrant had a license for operating one more year and his rental contract also ran for one more year. But the owner of the land wanted him out now since they are currrently bringing down weverything in that corner (right opposite of AUK). So when the Dozer was done with the buildings around Weekends, the owner told the Dozer driver to just demolish the front of the restaurant. He did... and in the back of the building you had some of the staff sleeping!!! WTF !!!

It's one thing that he owns the land and wants to make shitloads of money building something new there (propably another shopping center or mall that we are all waiting for and can't live without) but it is another putting a few lives in danger for that!!!
Sadly enough.... I bet you that he gets away with a 200-300 KD fine and that is that.... the guy who had run the place will most likely never be able to start his business again. His rentals will be way way higher then before, specially since people know how good his business was running and all of his equipment is destroyed...
My friend who sent me the SMS yesterday said that the staff working there stood infront of the restaurant with watery eyes in their uniforms... having to tell all their regular customers what happened.. Poor fellows!!!

Center for learning driving car

So after having my breakfast and going to work and screaming with some accountant who thinks he is General Manager or something, I now have time to blog a little more.

Now for me being in Kuwait for quite a long time, nothing can really shock me anymore. I guess all of us are used to see the most hilarious things going on on Kuwaits roads.

But I always wondered why Kuwaits drivers are so bad!!
OK... the racing your car part I kinda understand... that's because us men have to show how cool we are... Right?!
But whats with the changing lanes without looking?? Whats with the making a U-Turn from the middle lane?? Why is that happening?!? And why is it mostly women doing that?!?! (Before I get complaints... YES ... there are 5-6 women on this planet who can drive ... not all of them are bad drivers! And maybe YOU are one of the 5-6!!)
I think I found the answer! Initially I thought they where just blind because of their heyab or niqab... or just act like this because they think us man have to respect them so much that we need to anticipate every move they make on the road and automatically need to give them the right of way because they are so beautiful and we are all gentlemen!!
But no!!! I am SOOOOOO wrong!!!

They are thought to drive this way!!! It's an essential rule of driving in Kuwait as a woman!!!
If you drive 'normal' you will not pass the drivers license test!!!

And here is the prove!

Check the passenger side window... It's covered to simulate the driver wearing a niqab!! If you want to change lanes to the right you need to learn to do this blind!!!
Another good one is the English name of the great company: "New Nuora Center For Learning Driving Car"...
And why is that sign on the roof so crooked?!?! Rolled over in the previous car?!?! Driving too fast so wind blew it off??! Parking garage with very low ceiling?!?! or maybe a remainder of the "Old Nuora Center For Learning Driving Car"??
What happened to the old company?!!? Out of business?!?!

I am pretty sure the girl driving this car right now will pass her test!
she did not lose one of the wheel caps yet... no mayor scratches on the car... she had proper make up... so ... she'll pass! :)

Hmmm ... I think I should ask them to give me a refresh course or something! :)
I want to know all the secrets they are teaching!!! Lett'e me learning driving zee caar. Pleeaazze !!

I am late with a reason...

and the reason is this:

Soooo much better then work... :P

For your mind, your ears and for your soul

I NEED to make some advertisment here !!!
Thanks to a buddy of mine i stumbled accross the page musicovery.com and I love it!
Basically it's a webradio that plays tracks that you might want to hear acording to the genere and mood you selected.
And not only this ... you fell like 70's today?! Ok ... then just have it play songs out of the 70's! It works all the way back to the 50's...
Feel like discovering new stuff?!?! Then have it play less popular songs for you ... OR ... go with your favorites only...
It works with pretty slow connections already for the Low-Fi but if you decide to register there for a few bucks a month, you can listen to those tracks in Hi-Fi which means you need a decent connection speed! (there is a free registration to save your favourites and 'don't play anymore' as well)

Ohh ... and for those of you with a mobile phone with Symbian and a internet connection ... you can listen from your phone too! :)

Mix settings ... rather popular stuff ...
My current mood ... calm /dark ...
Selected time frame ... gimme everything! :P
My currently selected generes ... electro
